Information on Grassroots League play (registration numbers permitting):
Sherwood Park Minor Softball has introduced the Parmalat Learn To Play Program for the U10 Age Division. The development of young softball players that are 8 to 10 years of age require the opportunity to practice skills necessary to successfully take part in the game of softball. The LTP program allows children of all skill levels to achieve the same number of skill repetitions. The practices also offer a high success rate for every child, which improves every player's self-confidence and love of the game.
The U10 Division will now incorporate practice/skill development sessions and games on the designated playing days. The U10 Division will have weekly games in the Sherwood Park House League and participate in the SPMSA Annual Tournament (registration numbers permitting see below).
Also available for the U10 Division is the Pitching Clinic beginning in February and the SPMSA U10 Skills Clinic in March and April (additional fees apply).
U10 Team Formation and League Play
Teams and league designation will be decided the following way:
The goal is to have 4 or more teams to form a local Grassroots House league, with all games in Sherwood Park. In addition to these teams, based on parent feedback, there will also be one additional U10A team playing in the Edmonton Youth Softball Association.
SPMSA U10 Competitive Team
Sherwood Park Minor Softball will continue to be supporting a Competitive U10 team this season. This team will compete in the Edmonton Youth Softball Association League and will also compete in tournaments, with the goal to compete in Provincials at the A level. Please look for more information regarding evaluations and additional parent information in the new year. There will also continue to be a house league in Sherwood Park if registration numbers permit. See link above for policy on team formation and league play. Camps and Clinics are open to all U10 players.
SPMSA will not accept outbound player transfer requests prior to April 15 of the and for the current registration year and softball season. SPMSA reserves the right to wait until the current year's registration is closed then verify the number of teams and to conduct evaluations to determine the calibre of the team and the division they will play in. Player transfers received on or after April 15 of the current registration year and for the upcoming softball season will be evaluated based on Section E.5(d) of the Softball Alberta Handbook and a decision will be made within 7 calendar days.
Tournaments are determined by each individual team and its coaches as to which tournaments to enter and how many.
